WINTERIZING

Winterizing your camper is an essential step to protect it from the harsh winter weather and prevent damage to the plumbing system.

Here are the steps to properly winterize your camper:

1. Drain the water system: Start by draining all the water from the camper's plumbing system. This includes the fresh water tank, hot water heater, and all water lines. Open all faucets, including the shower and outdoor shower, to allow the water to drain completely.

2. Bypass the water heater: Locate the water heater and ensure it is turned off. If your camper has a bypass valve, switch it to bypass mode. This will prevent antifreeze from entering the water heater during the winterization process.

3. Add antifreeze to the plumbing system: Purchase RV antifreeze specifically designed for winterizing. Connect a hand pump or use a winterizing kit to pump the antifreeze into the plumbing system. Start with the furthest faucet from the water pump and work your way towards the pump, ensuring all faucets, toilets, and showers are flushed with antifreeze. Remember to also flush the outdoor shower and any other water outlets.

4. Empty and clean the holding tanks: Drain and empty the black and gray water holding tanks. Use a tank cleaning wand or a specialized tank cleaning solution to thoroughly clean the tanks. This will help prevent odors and buildup during the winter months.

5. Protect exterior components: Cover any exterior components, such as the air conditioner, vents, and tires, to protect them from the elements. Use specialized covers or tarps designed for RVs to provide adequate protection.

6. Store the camper properly: Find a suitable storage location for your camper during the winter months. Ideally, it should be stored in a covered area or under a protective RV cover. Ensure the camper is level and secure to prevent any damage from high winds or heavy snow.

7. Perform regular maintenance checks: Throughout the winter, periodically check on your camper to ensure it remains in good condition. Remove any snow accumulation from the roof and check for any signs of damage or leaks.

By following these steps, you can properly winterize your camper and protect it from potential damage during the winter season. It is important to consult your camper's owner's manual for specific instructions and recommendations from the manufacturer.
