Dewinterize & Sanitize
Dewinterizing your RV is an important step to prepare it for use after the winter season.
DEWINTERIZE
Here are the steps to properly dewinterize your RV:
1. Check for any signs of damage: Before starting the dewinterization process, inspect your RV for any signs of damage or leaks that may have occurred during the winter months. Look for cracks, tears, or other issues that need to be addressed before use.
2. Flush the plumbing system: Start by flushing the plumbing system to remove any antifreeze that was used for winterization. Connect your RV to a water source or fill the fresh water tank. Open all faucets, including the shower and outdoor shower, and let the water run until it flows clear and free of any antifreeze residue.
3. Reinstall water filters and screens: If you removed any water filters or screens during the winterization process, now is the time to reinstall them. Make sure they are clean and in good condition before putting them back in place.
4. Check the water heater: If you bypassed the water heater during winterization, switch it back to normal mode. Ensure the water heater is filled with water before turning it on to avoid damage.
5. Test the water system: Turn on the water pump and check for any leaks or unusual noises. Run water through all faucets, toilets, and showers to ensure they are functioning properly. Check for any signs of leaks or drips and address them promptly.
6. Test the propane system: If your RV has a propane system, check for any leaks or issues. Test the stove, oven, and any other propane appliances to ensure they are working correctly.
7. Charge the batteries: If your RV has been in storage, check the battery levels and charge them if necessary. Ensure the batteries are properly connected and functioning before use.
8. Inspect tires and brakes: Check the condition of your RV's tires, including the tread depth and tire pressure. Inspect the brakes for any signs of wear or damage. Replace or repair as needed.
9. Clean and sanitize the water system: After flushing the plumbing system, it's important to clean and sanitize it. Use a mixture of water and RV-approved sanitizing solution to clean the fresh water tank, water lines, and faucets. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for proper sanitization.
By following these steps, you can properly dewinterize your RV and get it ready for your next adventure. It's important to consult your RV's owner's manual for specific instructions and recommendation.

SANITIZE
Sanitizing your RV tanks is an important step to ensure clean and safe water for your travels. Here's a guide on how to properly sanitize your RV tanks:
1. Gather the necessary supplies: You will need RV-approved sanitizing solution, a clean bucket, a funnel, and access to a water source.
2. Empty and clean the tanks: Start by emptying and cleaning your fresh water tank and any other tanks in your RV, such as the gray water and black water tanks. Use a specialized tank cleaner or a mixture of water and mild detergent to thoroughly clean the tanks. Rinse them well to remove any residue.
3. Prepare the sanitizing solution: Follow the instructions on the sanitizing solution package to prepare the appropriate mixture. Typically, it involves mixing a specific amount of sanitizing solution with a certain amount of water. Use the clean bucket and funnel to mix the solution.
4. Fill the fresh water tank: Using the water source and the funnel, fill the fresh water tank with the sanitizing solution. Be sure to follow the recommended ratio of solution to water as specified by the manufacturer.
5. Run the solution through the plumbing system: Turn on the water pump and open all faucets, including the shower and outdoor shower, to allow the sanitizing solution to flow through the plumbing system. Let the solution run until you can smell it at each faucet.
6. Fill the tanks completely: Once the solution has run through the plumbing system, fill the fresh water tank completely with clean water. This will help dilute the sanitizing solution and remove any remaining residue.
7. Flush the plumbing system: Open all faucets and run the water until you no longer smell the sanitizing solution. This will ensure that the solution is thoroughly flushed out of the system.
8. Empty and refill the tanks: Finally, empty the fresh water tank and any other tanks in your RV. Refill the fresh water tank with clean water, and your tanks are now sanitized and ready for use.
It's important to note that the sanitizing solution and process may vary depending on the manufacturer's instructions and the specific requirements of your RV. Always consult your RV's owner's manual for detailed instructions and recommendations. Regularly sanitizing your RV tanks will help ensure clean and safe water for your travels.
